Chinese New Year at Sovereign Hill. Sunday 18th and Sunday 25th February

Help us welcome the Year of the Dog. Special activities will be conducted on Sunday 18th and Sunday 25th February. Bring your family for the dragon parade, lion dances, traditional Chinese music and dance preformances and special art activities for kids. Normal entry prices apply.


Aboriginal History at the Gold Museum

Tour The Pern Collection is a special opportunity for year 7 and 8 students studying the new Victorian History Curriculum. Meet a Curator or Collections Manager, go behind the scenes at the Gold Museum and enjoy exclusive access to the Museum’s storage facilities and its indigenous collections. This program can be modified for other year levels. One hour duration for up to 25 students. $13 per student. $5 per students from Affiliated schools. Download a flyer here

 

Happy 200th Birthday, S. T. Gill! Monday 21 May to Friday 25 May

At the Gold Museu. Known as the artist of the goldfields, Gill was one of the best known and
most popular colonial artists. Come on an interactive tour of the Gold Museum’s collection of Gill artworks, produce your own ‘sketchbook’ ofresponses along the way, and have an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour ofthe Museum’s art storage and handling practices.This program connects to history and visual arts Victorian curriculum.
Suitable for students from year 5-10. Maximum of 25 students per session.

Mass in St Alipius - Catholic Education Week. Monday 28th May, 11.00am.

Student leaders from local Catholic schools celebrate mass in Sovereign Hill’s St Alipius Church. For invited student representatives of local primary and secondary Catholic schools. Run in conjunction with the Ballarat Catholic Education Office.
Free by invitation.

 

 National Reconciliation Week at Sovereign Hill. 28 May to 1 June

Gnarrwirring Ngitj” means “Learning Together” in Wadawurrung language. The Sovereign Hill Museums Association, in partnership with the Wathaurung Aboriginal Corporation, is presenting an exciting week of activities designed to deepen your understanding of our shared history.

Horses Birthday

Horses’ Birthday. Wednesday 1 August

Primary students help celebrate the annual Horses’ Birthday. Come and muck out the stables, groom the horses and enjoy a coach ride. A fun day for all from 10.30am to 2.30pm. (Maximum 100) $3.00 per student.


Book Week. Find Your Treasure. Monday 20th to Friday 24th August

Primary schools will explore and celebrate some of the Children’s Book Council Book of the Year shortlisted books and participate in a selection of literacy and art activities using the short - listed books. Two 90 minute sessions will be conducted at 10.30am and 12.30pm daily. (Maximum 60 students per session) $5.00 per student

Eureka Day Commemorations

Christmas In The Colonies. Tuesday 4th December to Friday 14th December

This ever popular activity involves students in a 90 minute experience exploring and enjoying Christmas in the 1850s. Sessions conducted at 10.30am and 12.30pm daily. (Max 80) $5.00 per student


Eureka Day. Monday 3rd December

Help us commemorate the Eureka uprising with a 1.5 hour program suitable for primary students. 10.30 am to 12.00 noon for a maximum of 150 students. Free after the cost of admission to Sovereign Hill.
